It’s finally April and the springtime is here! The days are longer and the flowers and trees are coming back to life. Celebrate the new season by reading springtime books to your child. Here are 5 books for the months of April to help increase language development.
1. Spring is Here (Bear and Mole Story)
This book is right on point with the season. Spring is Here is a wonderful book with colorful illustrations. Your child can repeat the different sounds that mole uses to try to wake up bear (i.e. knock, tap, toot). For children 3-6 years old.
2. Let It Rain
April showers bring May flowers. The month of April is the perfect time to talk about the rain with your little one. Let It Rain is great to learn about the different aspects of the season and also practice rhyming words. For children 3-5 years old.
3. Earth Day, Birthday!
Earth Day is on April 22nd. Don’t forget to talk about this important day with your child. Earth Day, Birthday! is a perfect way to talk about taking care of the earth. The book is repetitive and easy for your child to follow along. For children 3-5 years old.
4. Planting a Rainbow
What a beautifully illustrated book. Bright colors and fun images will help get your child excited about planting. This book is great for sequencing the steps of planting a flower. The book is also great for planting vocabulary and learning colors. For ages 2 and up.
5. Tree: A Peek-Through Picture Book
April 29th is Arbor Day; a day in which we are encouraged to plant and take care of trees. Tree is a perfect book to celebrate this special day. Your child will enjoy the cut-outs on the pages. The book is also great for learning about the four seasons. For children 2-7 years old.
Tip: When reading the books, take time to talk about the pictures on each page. See if your child can label items in the pictures and also ask them to point to specific things on each page. Reading books with your child should be an interactive experience. Ask your child questions about the story to check their comprehension.
