8 Best Flap Books for Your Toddler

There are so many wonderful flap books out on the market for your child. In this post, I will narrow the list down to the best ones for your toddler that help increase language skills. Flap books are great for language development since the exciting flaps motivate your child to attend to the books. These types of books are also usually very repetitive and allow your child to help participate in the story. The flaps provide a great opportunity for your child to request to “open” the door (Tip: Use a finger to keep the flap closed until your child requests to open it)Flap books also offer many opportunities to learn new vocabulary due to their simplistic nature. Now it’s time to check out the list!

1. Dear Zoo

This book is great to expand your child’s knowledge of animals. The book also uses a different adjective to describe each animal on each page, such as a fierce lion. This book is a MUST-HAVE.

This book is obviously great for learning body parts. It also uses many spatial concept words, such as behind and under.

3. Open the Barn Door

This is another great one for animal vocabulary. It also is a nice opportunity to review the animal noises.

4. What’s in My Truck?

This book is nice because it offers many opportunities to request to “open” the flap with more than one flap per page. What’s in My Truck is also great because it asks many questions throughout that you can have your child answer.
